Pollution is the process of putting materials in harmful places. Things spilled, spewed, lost, mashed together, sent away but not far enough, they all fall into the category of pollution. Tar on the roof is not harmful, until it flows down the drainpipe and becomes a toy. Pollution is the Oedipus of Industry, we understand that it is harmful, we send it away, but it comes back. It is not static, it grows faster than we can put it away. It also is not passive. It includes vectors of secondary pollution.
