Smash the Screen

March 17th, 2009 · No Comments

GTA Chinatown (DS) is here, I just played the first two levels and I love the experience so far. Graphics are enjoyable, characters promise differentiation, controls require some executive function ability. A beautiful moment right at the beginning of the game comes when your character is trapped in a drowning car. Tapping on the touchscreen section of the Nintendo DS allows the character to smash the car window and get out before it’s too late. In smashing the screen and the window, the game flirts with the undoing of its own medium, and just there creates a tight coupling between the window in the game and the window of the game.
